Love Poem to Our Earth

Pagan Pretorius

We move through our lives in a hurried blur,
Too busy to see how the leaves gently stir,
Lost in the rush, we forget to breathe,
Ignoring the beauty the world still weaves.

We've grown out of touch, blind to the grace,
Of a world that pleads for a slower pace.
We don’t take a moment to stand, to see,
The trees, the skies, the rivers, the sea.

In our homes, we clean, we care, we keep,
Yet outside these walls, we let ruin seep.
We litter the earth, we poison the air,
Ignoring the damage, too lost to care.

Out of greed, out of spite, we scar the land,
Taking without ever lending a hand.
We turn a blind eye, we avert our gaze,
While the planet withers in a smoky haze.

One day, it will all be gone, lost to time,
A world once vibrant, now covered in grime.
And when there’s no place left to call home,
No soil to plant, no oceans to roam—

There will be no one to blame, but ourselves,
For we chose destruction, left hope on the shelves.
We forgot the earth was our truest abode,
And let it crumble beneath the load.

If only we’d treat the planet with care,
As we do the homes where we breathe clean air.
But the time will come when it’s too late,
And we’ll face the cost of our reckless fate.

So, pause, look around, before it’s all gone.
