She wakes in the morning, a shade of the night,
Eyes barely open, heart holding tight.
The world spins on in colours and noise,
But all she can hear is the sound it destroys.
There's a weight in her chest she can't seem to lift,
It sinks down so heavy, like sand in a drift.
Each step feels thicker, the air clinging close,
While inside her mind is a lingering ghost.
Friends reach out with kind-hearted words,
But comfort floats by like mist-blurred birds.
She wants to feel better, she swears that she'll try,
Yet joy feels as distant as stars in the sky.
She watches as the days blend to grey, then to black,
Hoping the light might one day come back.
But this darkness is a thief, unseen and unfair,
Taking pieces she needs, leaving her bare.
If only they knew this burden she bears,
How each smile hides despair beneath careful repair.
She longs for the day when she can be free,
To finally breathe, to finally see.
For now, she'll move forward, each day like the last,
In hopes that this shadow, too, shall pass.
